I think the craziness of the guys in the Kaiser-Wilhelm-era guys on hobby-horses below nice touch, and there are also traditional figures who just dress in more normal alpine/bavarian costumes who crack whips. There are also “bear-drivers” who use whips (as mentioned in the text) but both could be good to depict.
